Fifty houses and many shops in a Rohingya camp in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, were destroyed by fire.
The Tanzimarkhola Rohingya camp in Ukhiya’s Palongkhali union caught fire around 11:30 a.m. today, (May 24) according to Shamsu-Douza Noyon, the extra commissioner for refugee relief and repatriation.
Around 12:45 p.m., following a full-out effort by four fire department units, it was under control.
We still don’t know what started the fire.
“A fire started in the Tanzimarkhola Rohingya camp’s market area at around 11:30 am and swiftly spread to the nearby locations. Two Ukhiya fire department units were sent to the scene as soon as they heard the news, according to Shamsu-Douza.
“Two more units from Cox’s Bazar later joined them,” he continued.
