On Friday (28 April 2023) around 10:30 pm, a devastating fire broke out and rapidly spread surrounding the area at Lambashia 2 East Camp of Ukhiya.
Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police (ADIG) Sayed Harunur Rashid, the commander of the 14 Armed Police Battalion assigned to the security of the Rohingya camp said that the fire incident occurred at Lambashia 2 East Camp of Ukhia Upazila at 10:30 on Friday night. Having the information, two units of the fire service came and brought the fire under control around 11:30 pm.
A refugee from Lambashiya camp said that the fire started from a house and rapidly spread to near by houses. 2 units of fire fighter brought the fire under control after attempt of about an hour.
It is learnt that fire blazed 10-12 Rohingya shelters and 2 learning centers of NGOs.
The reason behind the fire has not known yet. But the continuous fire in camps make Rohingyas worried.
