Rohingya living in displacement camps in Sittwe Township say monthly food assistance has begun to decrease from this month, raising concerns over worsening hardship among families.
According to community members, the World Food Programme had been providing 45,000 kyats per person each month for food. However, many families are now being removed from the assistance list.
Residents said notices have been posted in the camps identifying households that will no longer receive food support. In each of the eight camps in Sittwe, an estimated 200 to 500 families are affected.
“We saw lists in the camp showing families who will not get food anymore,” one Rohingya resident said. “We have no jobs and depend only on this support. If it stops, it feels like we are being left without food.”
Many families said they are uncertain how they will manage without assistance, as livelihood opportunities in the camps remain extremely limited.
The situation has increased concern among the Rohingya community, with residents calling for continued support to meet basic food needs.
