On 24 January, 2023, Foreign Minister, AK Abdul Momen said that Rohingya must go back to their motherland in Myanmar and their safe repatriation will continue to remain Bangladesh’s priority.
Myanmar always said that they will take back their people but they have lack of sincerity, he told reporters after a meeting with the Deputy Commission at the DC Conference.
“We, Rohingya people are always prepared and ready to go to our country, we are here only temporarily,” said Maung Kyaw than, a Rohingya teacher in the refugee camp in Bangladesh. We need to recognize us an ethnic group of Myanmar with full citizenship rights by the Myanmar government, he added.
Foreign Minister also said that the solution lies to Myanmar, he doesn’t have any solution. Bangladesh is now hosting over 1 million Rohingya in Cox’s Bazar and Bhasan Char.
After Genocide in 2017, not a single Rohingya has been sent back to Myanmar.
