24 September 2025 — The government, in cooperation with international organizations, is actively working to ensure the safe repatriation of forcibly displaced Rohingyas to Myanmar with full rights guaranteed, said Dr. AFM Khalid Hossain, Adviser on Religious Affairs, on Tuesday.
Speaking to journalists after attending a communal harmony rally at the Khagrachhari Upazila Parishad auditorium, Dr. Khalid emphasized that repatriation remains a priority. “We are working closely with international bodies to make sure Rohingyas can return to Myanmar safely, with dignity, and with their rights fully ensured,” he said.
Dr. Khalid also announced that the government has allocated Tk 6 crore for the upcoming Durga Puja festival and confirmed that preparations are nearly complete. Security measures are in place to ensure peaceful celebrations across the country.
Highlighting Bangladesh’s economic progress, he noted that foreign currency reserves have risen from US$ 20 billion when the current government assumed office to US$ 31 billion. He said the country has made remarkable strides in stability and development since independence.
Dr. Khalid praised Bangladesh as a role model for communal harmony in the region, contrasting it with neighboring countries. He also expressed concern over citizens who maintain second homes abroad despite earning in Bangladesh, urging patriotism and dedication to the nation.
The rally was chaired by Khagrachhari Deputy Commissioner ABM Iftekharul Islam and attended by Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Sadeq Ahmed, Commander of Khagrachhari Zone of Bangladesh Army Lt Col Md Khademul Islam, and Superintendent of Police Arefin Jewel, along with local representatives, political leaders, educators, and religious figures.
