On Saturday at around 11:00 am, a team of 11 members from the La Wa Ka entered the village tract of Guda Pyin, Buthidaung to take fingerprints from the 80 families as a preude to moving them to a newly constructed IDP camp. The locals stated that, “All of a sudden an official government team came along and made us gather in an open space and they stated every individual must be obliged to follow Myanmar’s national law. The government has built IDP camps for those whose houses been burnt. You all have to go to newly constructed camp”.
The houses of these 80 families were earlier destroyed during the military operations of 2018.
After explaining the statement to the locals the officers took thumbprint of Rohingya people on a document which was brought by them.
A bizarre oral directive constantly repeated by government officials has declared all villages destroyed during the military operations of 2017 and 2016 are now government property.
