Maungdaw- Renewed tensions have broken out in the restive village tract of Ludaing in Maungdaw North as arsonists allegedly belonging to the security outfits set fire on a house and fired blank shots.
Shortly after midnight on Thursday, locals heard gunshots in the village. When they came out of their houses to gauge the situation, they saw a house burning.
The house belongs to Noor Alam who was attacked along with his family when escaping to Bangladesh during the recent army operations. He and his family are believed to have been killed in the attack on the Naf river.
One eyewitness unwilling to be identified said he saw at least one attacker dressed in the army uniform.
Sources say anyone moving around in such a late hour can only do so with the backing of the security forces.
A night curfew in the area is enforced by thousands of soldiers and there has been no noticeable de-escalation in the presence of the Tatmadaw even though the government had declared an end of clearance operations in February.
Ludaing was one of the villages targeted by the Tatmadaw in the recent clearance operations with dozens being killed, and many women raped. Much of the populace has already left for Bangladesh.
