Locals have reported heavy gunfire near Tat Min Chaung in Buthidaung towards the direction of the hills on Wednesday.
The gunfire, which locals say might belong to heavy machine guns have spelled panic among the community.
While the gunfire is towards the wilderness away from the settlements, many are fearing this might be a prelude to attack on their settlement.
Others are saying this might just be a warning from security forces.
The Tatmadaw and Hlun Htein maintain bases in the area.
