The Indian government for Jammu and Kashmir has declared that it will withdraw cases filed against “illegal immigrants” from Bangladesh including Rohingya Muslims so that the government can deport them on short notice.
According to Anadolu Agency’s report, since 2007 there are hundreds of Rohingyas inhabited Jammu but the exact number is unknown.
Aseem Sawhney, the additional advocate general for the region quoted to Kashmir News Observer that, “a person booked under the preventive detention law or another pertaining to foreigners cannot be brought out of jail for deportation without a court’s permission.”
Sawhney was also quoted as saying that the Indian and Bangladeshi governments have finalized formalities for the deportation.
Mohammad Haneef, a Rohingya representative believes, over 6,000 Rohingya refugees are living in 39 ghettoes in the Jammu region and the government planning to uproot them all and deport them.
