Ko Ko Awung’s inadmissible statement stirs up tension between Rohingya and Marma residents in Northern Maungdaw

Two Marma fishermen were brutally assaulted bya group of anonymous attackers at Phurma canal, Bolibazar, Maungdaw, at around 11pm on December 17th. The victims were soon rushed to medical assistance followed by questioning, where they couldn’t help identifying the offenders in any way.

However, village chairman Ko Ko Awung, in his statement, has bluntly blamed Rohingya men to be behind the incident; A remark, that has fueled the rise of hostility between the Rohingya and Marma habiants, lately.
