Kutupalong camp Majhi stabs elderly man

An elderly man was critically injured in a knife attack by a Block Majhi in Moduchera of Kutupalong refugee camp on Tuesday.

Md Kamal was attacked by the Majhi when he protested the block leader Md Hossain’s embezzlement of goods and his treatment of poor refugees.

Hossain, who claims to be a religious leader has long been involved in the embezzlement of relief materials meant for the refugees. He also treats the refugees, especially the poor and marginalised ones with contempt and rudeness. When Kamal protested Hossain’s actions, the Majhi attacked and stabbed him.

Hossain and other Majhis are Rohingya leaders appointed by a representative from the government of Bangladesh. Many of them are involved in corruption, sometimes in liaison with government officials.
