Villagers in Kya Ri prang, Maungdaw, have returned to the remnants of their village for the first time since Saturday when the military took up positions in the locality. The village was earlier looted and razed to the ground on Thursday.
Coming back on Monday, the villagers discovered an unidentified corpse among the ruins.
Since Wednesday, at least ten people from the village tract have been killed by the military. The discovery of the corpse would push the number to eleven. However, some sources say the actual death toll might be much higher.
Of the eight victims, six of them are from the same family. Three of them are women, while the other three are children, with one being a new born. Many of them were killed when soldiers struck their stomach and vaginal areas with bayonets.
The two other victims are a child and an elderly man.
Meanwhile two teenage girls from the area were killed after they were kidnapped and raped by the military. Three other women have also been kidnapped by the military. Their fate is unknown.
Raping women from ethnic minorities has long been a practice of the military throughout the country.
Meanwhile villagers are forced to stay in the open, while many have constructed huts from sheds from plastic material. They are on high alert and ready to ran away in case the army approaches again as anyone lagging behind is either killed or captured.
