Sittwe, Arakan – Junta troops conducted late-night raids on Rohingya villages in response to rumors of an offensive by the Arakan Army (AA), a group fighting for autonomy in Rakhine state.
A resident of Thet Kay Pyin village, known to Rohingya as Sakki Para, speaking on condition of anonymity, reported that soldiers entered his home around 11 PM on July 21. “They claimed to be inspecting the family census and guest list,” he said. “Instead, they ransacked the house, including our boxes, and took all our valuables before leaving.”
The villager added that troops reportedly beat individuals who couldn’t speak Burmese or were slow to open their doors.
