On Wednesday a meeting was organized by sub-district administration with landlords who stated that the Upazila (sub-district) administration is taking action against illegally renting houses to Rohingyas in Ukhiya. A deadline has been set for the Rohingyas to be evicted from their rented homes within the next month.
The meeting was held at Kutupalong government primary school in Razapalong union of Ukhiya police station where sub-district Executive Officer Imran Hossain Sajib presided over the meeting.
During the address, Imran Hossain warned that legal action will be taken against landlords who disobey this order.
Among others, President of Ukhiya Press Club Sayed Mohammad Anwar said that the Rohingyas are living in rented houses as well as controlling the crimes in and outside camp, and influencing local population.
According to the office of the sub-district Executive Officer, the sub-district administration has taken various initiatives including motivational meetings to prevent the Rohingyas from renting houses and evicting them from their rented homes. Individual advocacy meetings are already underway with local public representatives, civil society, journalists and landlords.
