On Thursday, a Danish shipping giant – Maersk will not use ports operated by the Myanmar military by end of this month according to a lobby group.
The company’s decision was highly significant, although Maersk gave no specifics of the strategy change to (AFP) but said it was “cognisant of recent recommendations from the United Nations to maintain operations in Myanmar while exercising heightened due diligence.”
Last month, Amnesty International cited a number of international businesses of helping fund military units who are directly responsible for rights violations.
