Today Malaysian authority has stated that they will shut down the operation of their field hospitals in the Rohingya refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar due to reduction of patients. The hospital was originally planned to shut down by December 2021.
According to the Malaysian ministry report, “The establishment of the Malaysian field hospital had succeeded in achieving its objectives and this withdrawal neither affects bilateral relations between Malaysia and Bangladesh nor the country’s image.”
The field hospital has:
• treated 108,038 patients between November 2017 and March 2020.
• performed 3,500 surgeries
• and the highest number of patients were in November 2018.
There are six other field hospitals in the refugee camp.
