Maungdaw- A Rohingya man has been arrested and allegedly tortured by Hlun Htein forces in Lound Don, Maungdaw North.
Shamsul Alam, 24, (s/o Noor Alam) was returning to his village on a motorcycle along with a friend when Hlun Htein forces intercepted him near a checkpoint. The two men were first asked to get down from their vehicle, but later the security forces changed their mind and arrested Alam.
He was first taken to the local camp from where he was transferred to the nearby base in Nga Khura.
The border post in Nga Khura is infamous as a centre for torture with sources saying there were prisoners in the camp who had their eyes gouged out during the Tatmadaw led crackdown last fall.
Torture of Rohingyas in custody is a common occurrence with more than a thousand dying a slow painful death in custody since tensions peaked in 2012.
Many taken to the infamous Nga Khura camp don’t return leading to fears for the safety of Alam.
