Maungdaw – A Rohingya man was arrested by Hlun Htein from Lound Don in Maungdaw North.
Shamsul Alam was arrested from the western part of the Hanti Para hamlet on Monday.
It was alleged that Shamsul was mobilising the locals against the NVC scheme.
However, later the police alleged that he was involved in attacks against security forces on October 9. They also said the arrested man had a Bangladeshi mobile in his possession which he uses to keep in touch with Muslim rebels in the border region.
He is currently in police custody with authorities planning to start legal proceedings against him.
Incidentally Lound Don was one of the villages in Maungdaw North that has faced intense attacks during the crackdown of last fall. In recent days, there has been a renewed sense of panic among locals as Hlun Htein and Tatmadaw forces are adopting an aggressive stance.
A huge part of the local populace has escaped to Bangladesh in December and January.
