Cox’s Bazar, January 15 — A man abducted on January 8 while traveling in a CNG from Kutupalong was released after his family paid a ransom exceeding 5 lakh BDT to the kidnappers.
According to local sources, the victim was returning from Kutupalong when he boarded a CNG carrying four passengers, including the driver. Shortly after, the group diverted the vehicle and forcibly took him to Hnila, where he was held captive for seven days.
The kidnappers reportedly released the man only after securing the ransom payment from his family, raising alarm over the rising trend of abductions in the Cox’s Bazar region.
Increasing Concern Over Kidnappings
This incident highlights the growing insecurity in the area, particularly for commuters traveling between camps and surrounding localities. Community members have expressed heightened fears, urging immediate action to curb such criminal activities.
“This is becoming an alarming issue,” said a local resident. “We are constantly worried for our safety while traveling, especially at night. Stronger security measures are essential to stop these incidents.”
Calls for Action and Investigation
Authorities have launched an investigation into the kidnapping, vowing to bring those responsible to justice. Local law enforcement has emphasized the need for vigilance and urged residents to exercise caution while commuting.
The incident underscores the urgent need for enhanced security in the Cox’s Bazar area, particularly along routes frequently used by refugees and local communities.
With abduction cases on the rise, there is increasing pressure on both local authorities and humanitarian organizations to implement measures to safeguard the vulnerable population.
