On 18 November 2022, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Military Council issued a statement saying that it did not accept a resolution proposed at the meeting of the Third Committee, entitled ” The Human Rights Situation of the Rohingya and Other Minorities in Myanmar.”
In the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Military Council, it was adopted without participation of lawful representatives of Myanmar at the Third Committee of 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the United States on 16 November 2022.
Myanmar always opposes country – specific resolution and mandates which are created against the principles of impartiality, objectivity and non – selectivity in promotion and protection of human rights.
“We don’t care whatever the military council says about the Rohingya issues, they are liars. They brutally killed us in 2017. They have no empathy for others.” said, Mr Edirise a Rohingya teacher from the Refugee camp.
The resolution included condemning the Burmese Military for committing genocide against Rohingya and calling for an independent investigation and holding the perpetrators accountable.
In the response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Military Council stated the resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly is politically motivated, ignoring complexities of the issues and challenges Myanmar is facing. Adoption of such resolution with fictitious allegation will not contribute to any practical solution to Myanmar.
The official of United States of America at the United Nations welcomed the approval of the draft resolution and condemned the human rights violation by Burmese Military.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) members countries and the European Union proposed to adopt a draft resolution on the Rohingya issue.
