On Wednesday (12 April) in the morning, a group indiscriminately beat and hacked 12 Rohingya daily laborers while they were on the way to forest to cut bushes under the guidance of forest department.
The incident took place at a mountain western side of Hleda under Teknaf police station. All of the victims are of Nayapara registered camp. Now they are under treatment in camp base hospital of Nayapara registered camp.
A victim told Rohingya Khobor (RK) that they went to mountain to cut bushes on daily wage basis. While they reached on their destination, 25-30 masked miscreants equipped with sharp weapons and firearms surrounded them and asked to put down their choppers. As soon as they put down choppers, then the miscreants started to beat them indiscriminately.
Another victim under anonymity said, “When we tried to resist the attackers, they started hacking us. And when we became severely injured, they left the scene by warning us no to cut bushes in the forest.”
Another victim said, “The locals of Hleda villlage prohibited us not to cut bushes in their area. But the forest department hired them.” So it is being believed that the locals committed this heinous act.
The general Rohingyas claim that they can’t go for work far away from camp, and even the work facility inside camp is very limited. In addition the Holy Eidul Fitre will take place soon. So, some of the refugees are working as daily laborer with less wages so that they can buy the clothes of minimum price for their children to observe Eidul Fitre like other muslims all over the world.
