Some Buddhist monks have looted the paddy fields in the Rohingya Muslim settlement of Taung Bazaar on Saturday.
The monks accompanied by a detachment of Hlun Htein arrived in the daylight hours and began cutting the paddy harvested by the Rohngyas. The harvest was then taken aboard a boat which took off towards the direction of Buthidaung town.
Incidentally, the village tract of Taung Bazaar bore the full brunt of Tatmadaw assaults in late August and early September, resulting in the deaths of hundreds including children as the security forces pounded the area with rockets and fired indiscriminately. Many were also apprehended, and burned to death.
Much of the population fled to Bangladesh following the military operations.
