Moebye, Southern Shan State – March 25, 2025
A Muslim deputy commander serving under the Naypyidaw People’s Defense Force (PDF) was killed during intense fighting with Myanmar junta forces in Moebye, according to an official statement released by his battalion.
Fallen in the Fight for Justice
The commander, Mohammad Nurman, widely known by his comrade Reh Baw Ngate, was serving as deputy commander of the Thanaung Column, part of Battalion 805 under the Naypyidaw PDF. He lost his life on March 22 while battling the Myanmar military in one of the frontlines of resistance in Moebye. His battalion described him as a brave and committed fighter who played a vital role in the resistance against military oppression. His death was mourned not only by his comrades but also by those in the wider pro-democracy movement.
Laid to Rest with Honor
The Naypyidaw PDF organized a funeral ceremony in accordance with Islamic traditions to honor Commander Nurman’s sacrifice. Photographs from the funeral were shared by the Thanaung Column, showing fellow fighters paying their respects.
A spokesperson from the battalion said,
“He was not only a fighter but a symbol of unity across faiths and ethnicities in our shared struggle. His sacrifice reminds us that this revolution belongs to all people of Myanmar, regardless of religion or background.”
A Symbol of Inclusion in the Revolution
Mohammad Nurman’s death underscores the diverse makeup of the resistance forces fighting against Myanmar’s junta regime. His presence in a leadership role highlights the growing participation of Muslim minorities in the broader struggle for federal democracy and equal rights.
As the conflict continues, stories like Nurman’s stand as powerful reminders that the fight against tyranny is being carried forward by people of all backgrounds, including the often-marginalized Muslim communities.
