The Department of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar condemned the international response to the 5th anniversary of the Rohingya Genocide Remembrance day.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has learnt about the issuance of statements by certain countries and organizations including the spokesperson of the United Nations Secretary General on the anniversary of the purge that took place in Rakhine state on 25 August 2017. The Ministry has stated that the contents and facts contained in their statements not only lack authenticity and are from unverifiable sources but are also found to be one sided and interfere in the internal affairs of Myanmar.
The purge that started on 25 August 2017 in Rakhine state are alleged by Myanmar to have been triggered by the coordinated and simultaneous attacks of the ARSA (Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army) terrorist group on 30 police outposts and regiment Headquarter.
“Myanmar military is international liar so they denied our ethnic identity. Their intention is to the destroy the Rohingya community so that they started genocidal operation in 2017,” said Ali Jannah Hussin, communication director of Rohingya Youth Association.
The statement also highlighted that the government and people of Myanmar do not recognize and accept the use of the term Rohingya.
“We are originally Rohingya from the Arakan state Myanmar, we are not Bengali,” Hussin added.
