Today the Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said that the Myanmar has assured that neither shells nor Rohingya from Myanmar will come to the Bangladesh territory.
He said, “No new Rohingya will be allowed to enter Bangladesh. Besides, the Rohingya issue will be highlighted in the UN session.”
The Foreign Minister gave this information at a press conference organized at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to highlight various aspects of the UN session.
The Minister said “There is some conflict in Myanmar. Since knowing this, we have taken the necessary measures from our side. First of all, we have decided not to allow any Rohingya to enter Bangladesh. Our border police and other forces have already been alerted and they are on full aware.”
He also said, “We have repeatedly requested the Myanmar government that their shells should not come towards us. We have panic here. They (Myanmar) have heard the speech. We have informed their government. I heard there is a conflict between the Arakan Army and the Myanmar Army there and many of them are very close to the border. As a result, Myanmar Army bullets are coming towards us while attacking them.”
The Foreign Minister said, “We have told them in this regard. They guaranteed that they will be careful. We hope that no more people will come from Myanmar.”
On September 3, at 9:30 in the morning, two shells fired from Myanmar Army warplanes landed in Ghumdhum area of Naikkongchari Upazila of Bandarban. Earlier on August 28 around 3 pm, two mortar shells fired from Myanmar fell unexploded near Tambru North Mosque in Ghumdhum. Later, expert teams of law enforcement agencies neutralized them.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly protested this incident by summoning Myanmar’s ambassador U Aung Kyaw Mo in Dhaka. At the same time, Naypyidaw was also urged by Dhaka that Rakhine needs peace, stability and security for the sake of Rohingya repatriation.
