Since Monday, Myanmar has again imposed internet shutdown in two Western states.
In mid-June, Myanmar shuts down the internet in conflict areas but again partially lifts internet blackout in Rakhine and Chin states in early September. The Norwegian mobile operator Telenor Group said in a statement the transport and communications ministry had ordered for mobile internet traffic to be stopped again in five townships in Rakhine and Chin states for three months.
Today, Tun Tun Nyi, a Myanmar military spokesman stated the army was unaware of the shutdown. He said to Reuters, “We don’t know and we haven’t heard about it.”
