Buddhist villagers are breaking empty homes and carrying away materials from the Rohingya settlement of Ngaraing Chaung in Buthidaung.
The village of Ngaraing Chaung was attacked by the security forces in 2017 resulting in mass casualties for the Rohingyas. Most of the residents have long fled to Bangladesh and only a few families are left in the once sprawling village.
The empty houses are now being carried away by Buddhist villagers from the nearby settlements. The process has been ongoing for a week now. Sources say that Ngaraing Chaung already looks like a ghost town but once this loot is over, one day there might be no sign left of this once busy Rohingya settlement.
