Myanmar military officials will be denied visa by Isreal to attend future arms expo. Yesterday Israel’s Foreign Ministry announced a decision stating, from now on, request for visas to attend arms expositions by nationals of countries to which Israel refuses to sell arms will be rejected.
The decision has been declared after the “Israeli Daily” reported on 5th June that army officials from Myanmar had attended the Israel Defense and Homeland Security Expo in Tel Aviv, where Israel’s latest weapons, drones and cyber tools were on display.
According to the magazine, Israel has supposedly stopped selling advanced weaponry to Myanmar in 2017. It has also mentioned that top Myanmar army officials travelled to Israel in September 2015 for a “shopping spree” with Israeli weapons manufacturers. Some of the arms that Israel has supplied include rifles, gunboats, and military training.
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) subsequently called for the Myanmar government to be brought before the International Criminal Court (ICC) for crimes against humanity, including genocide. In addition, the European Union (EU) re-imposed an arms embargo on Myanmar, while the US has imposed economic sanctions on the Burmese security forces and high-profile military generals starting in 2018.
