On 14 September 2022, U Kyaw Zaw, the Presidential Spokesman of National Unity Government, has issued a statement that he apologized to the Rohingya Community.
On October 2,2017, “I served as a witness at a Canada standing committee on Human Rights. It was a judgment error on my part to have believed the information I received and then to have said such wrong things in an attempt to defend the Myanmar civilian government. To be clear, I no longer believe, and I deeply regret what I said during that time. I have no intention to mislead and to be harmful to anyone, especially to the Rohingya community,” he said in the statement.
“Actually, it’s a good initiative from the NUG, but it’s not enough yet. We hope more from them. At least they should recognize us as a ethnic Rohingya community. Everyone should do like that who was involved Rohingya genocide issue,” said Md Rafique, a Rohingya teacher from the world’s largest refugee camp in Bangladesh.
“I feel deeply sorry for all the victims, survivors, and families. I strongly believe that impunity must end, justice must prevail, ” according to the statement.
