Maungdaw – La Wa Ka officials accompanied by police and Hlun Htein forces raided Lamba Guna in Maungdaw South on Saturday.
A team of around 130 officials entered the village at around 6 am and forced their way into Rohinya homes. Here they forced the occupants to give their fingerprints on a blank paper. They did not disclose any reason for this behaviour.
Locals are speculating this is a ploy to register the Rohingyas under the NVC scheme.
The controversial NVC card has been rejected by Rohingyas on the ground it refers to them as Bengalis and offers them only temporary residence in the country.
However those rejecting the NVC have been harassed and often imprisoned. At least one man has been tortured in Lound Don, Maungdaw North.
