Roads and village pathways connecting several Rohingya villages in Buthidaung Township were blocked on February 23, 2026, restricting movement and raising safety concerns among residents, according to local sources.
Residents said routes linking Oo Hla Phay, Rohingkha Daung, Sein Daung, Khang Daung, and Pho Young Lay were blocked by members of the Arakan Army. As a result, villagers are unable to travel freely between communities.
Local people reported that the restrictions have heightened fear among families, particularly those with teenage boys and girls. Community members said there is concern that young people are being detained in the area, although no official explanation has been publicly provided regarding the purpose of the blockades.
“We are very scared. Our children cannot go outside, and we do not know what may happen,” a Rohingya man told Rohingya Khobor.
A Rohingya woman said the restrictions have severely affected daily life. “We cannot go to the market, and if someone is sick, we cannot easily take them to the hospital. Life has become very difficult,” she said.
A local elder added that many parents are keeping their sons and daughters inside their homes out of fear. “Everyone is living in tension,” he said.
Residents reported that food access, medical care, and basic movement have been disrupted. The situation remains tense as families wait for clarity and the restoration of freedom of movement.
