Today at around 11:30 am, the Head of United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Cox’s Bazar sub office, Ita Schuette, inaugurated the Primary Health Care Center at Nayapara registered refugee camp of Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.

After the inauguration, Ita Schuette along with government officials and health workers visited the Health Center.

A health worker told Rohingya Khobor (RK) that previously the Health Center was known as Output Patient Department (OPD), where few of the patients could admit for treatment only due to lack of proper space.

An official from Health Department under the condition of anonymity said, “Considering the hygienic environment, proper space, and laboratory facilities, the government with the funds of UNHCR re-constructed the OPD and named as ‘Primary Health Care Center’ at Nayapara registered refugee camp.”

The official continued, “refugees will have better access to treatment than ever before, for more medical equipment and facilities have been enlarged,” adding that some patients would previously referred for specific tests, but now it is possible to complete those tests at
Health Care Center.

At around 12:30 pm, Ita Schuette talked with the Camp Management Committee, Block Management Committee and Community Protection Counsellors and even she discussed on camp situation with government officials. At around 2 pm, she left for Cox’s Bazar.
