In a significant operation, RAB-15 has arrested Mohammad Shahidul Islam, also known as Maulvi Oli Akij, a key figure in the Myanmar-based terrorist organization ARSA, along with four others. Shahidul Islam is the main planner behind the high-profile murder of Master Mohibullah in Ukhiya’s Rohingya camp. He has also been involved in seven murders and the assassination of an intelligence officer, among other crimes. Shahidul Islam faces over 21 charges, including murder, possession of illegal arms, and kidnapping.

The arrests took place during a special raid on the night of Monday, June 10, in Rohingya Camp 4.

The following people were arrested:

  • Mohammad Shahidul Islam, also known as Maulvi Oli Akij, is a 50-year-old man who hails from C-Block, Kutupalong Camp 5, Ukhiya. He is the son of the late Abul Bashar, also known as Maulvi Naser.
  • Mohammad Faisal, also known as Master Faisel, is a 28-year-old son of Maulvi Anwar, who hails from D-Block, Camp 6.
  • Hafiz Fayzur Rahman, 24, is the son of the late Maulvi Rahmat Ullah from Camp 20.
  • Mohammad Salam, also known as Master Salam, is a 20-year-old who hails from B/44, E-Block, Balukhali Camp-8.
  • Mohammad Jubair, 24, is the son of Anu Mia from Camp-22, Unchiprang.

During the operation, authorities recovered a foreign pistol, a locally made LG, a one-shooter gun, 10 rounds of cartridges, 2 kilograms of explosives, three-button mobile phones, and 2,500 BDT in cash.

RAB-15 Commander Lt. Col. HM Sajjad Hossain confirmed the arrests during a press conference on Monday afternoon.

He declared, “We conducted a special operation based on intelligence that ARSA’s top leader, Maulvi Akij, and other terrorists were hiding in Camp 4.” So far, we have arrested five individuals, including Maulvi Akij. We also seized weapons, ammunition, and explosives.”

He added, “Maulvi Akij is one of the main planners behind the murder of Rohingya leader Master Mohibullah and the sensational seven murders in the Rohingya camp. He has over 21 cases against him, including charges of murder, arms possession, and kidnapping.”

Legal proceedings against the arrested individuals are underway, according to the RAB official.
