A Rakhine gang led by Aung Naying has been looting goods in broad daylight from Rohingya inhabitants in ward no 6 of Buthidaung town.
On 25th September, Aung Naying looted clothes worth 30,000 kyats from a Rohingya’s shop. A victims said on condition of anonymity, “Aung Naying came to my shop and selected goods but when the time came to pay, he threatened me and punched me on my face.”
Furthermore, On 3rd and 6th October, Naying forcefully seized a phone worth 60,000 kyats and cosmetics worth 20,000 kyats from Mohammed Shah and Ziabul Hoque’s shop.
Simultaneously, they are allegedly stealing motorbikes, snatching cash from pedestrians, having meal and tea without payment from various Rohingya shops. Any individual who tried to stand against them are threatened nor assaulted.
The gang only preys on Muslim inhabitants of the town.
Buthidaung town was spared the violence of 2017 that killed around 25,000 Muslims but many of the town’s inhabitants fear they will soon face the fate of the countryside.
