Maungdaw, Arakan, September 11, 2025, In northern Maungdaw, an Arakan Army/United League of Arakan (AA/ULA) commander has called on Rohingya businessmen to provide financial support to the group, as funding reportedly runs low.
Meeting with Village Administrators
The appeal was made during a meeting on September 8 between an AA/ULA commander and local Rohingya village administrators. Attendees said the commander stressed that both Muslims and Rakhine people should cooperate for the “development of the area.”
Donations and Support Requested
Muslim businessmen were specifically urged to contribute donations and other forms of support to sustain AA/ULA activities. Participants reported that the commander framed the request as part of broader community responsibility.
Border Closures and Security Orders
The commander also emphasized full closure of the border, directing residents to report anyone attempting to enter the area, including armed individuals or criminals, directly to AA camps. Villagers were instructed not to contact armed groups, to reveal those in communication with them, and to provide assistance to AA/ULA whenever called upon.
Growing Pressure on Communities
Local residents expressed concern that such demands further increase economic and social pressure on Rohingya families, many of whom are already struggling with poverty, restricted livelihoods, and insecurity under AA control.
