Cox’s Bazar, September 8, 2025, The Rohingya Cultural Memory Centre (RCMC) has begun celebrating its third anniversary, marking three years of dedicated efforts to preserve, promote, and celebrate Rohingya culture. The week-long programme, from September 8 to 14, is being held in Cox’s Bazar with a series of cultural events, workshops, and community gatherings.
A Living Archive of Rohingya Heritage
Since its establishment, RCMC has evolved into more than a cultural hub, it is a living archive of Rohingya traditions, stories, and skills. The centre serves as a bridge between generations, ensuring that elders’ knowledge and craftsmanship are passed on to the youth.
Through its activities, RCMC not only safeguards Rohingya intangible cultural heritage but also plays a vital role in supporting mental health and psychosocial well-being in the refugee community.
A Platform for Learning and Self-Expression
Over the past three years, RCMC has hosted skill-sharing workshops, masterclasses, and community events that encourage intergenerational learning and foster self-expression. From traditional crafts and storytelling to music and cultural practices, the centre has provided a safe space where Rohingya identity can flourish despite displacement.
Looking Ahead
Marking the anniversary, organizers highlighted that RCMC’s mission goes beyond memory — it is about resilience and continuity.
“As we celebrate three years of cultural resilience, we also look forward to expanding our initiatives and ensuring that future generations can carry forward the richness of Rohingya traditions,” an RCMC representative said.
The anniversary celebrations reaffirm the importance of culture in sustaining community spirit and dignity, even in exile.
