Perpetrators abducted a Rohingya minor boy while he was playing near his house in Nayapara refugee camp on Wednesday (March 1) around 6 pm. The abductors have demanded a ransom of three lakh taka or have threatened to kill the abductee.
The abductee is Y. Arafat (12), son of M.Hashim resident of E block in Nayapara registered camp under Teknaf upazila.
According to the victim’s family member, Arafta is a madarasa student. He came home offering Asar prayer and went to play near his home. When he didn’t return home till Magrib prayer, the family members searched him around the camp. But they failed to trace Arafat and became desperate.
Later, around 9 pm, someone phoned the victim’s mother and said that they kidnapped Arafat, and even demanded a ransom of 6 million Taka.
Gradually the kidnappers lessened the demand of ransom to three lakh Taka and threatened that if the victim’s relatives become unable to pay it before sunset of 2 March or try to inform the matter to police, they would kill Arafat.
A Rohingya told the victim’s mother that they informed the issue to the camp authorities and Armed Police Battalion (APBn) for legal assistance to recover her child from the hands of kidnappers.
The law enforcement agencies are on alert regarding the issue.
