Pekanbaru, Riau Province, Indonesia | December 4, 2025
Rohingya refugees living in Pekanbaru have donated nine million rupiah to support Indonesian families affected by recent floods in Riau Province. Community members said that even though they face their own daily hardships, they wanted to express solidarity with the people who have provided them safety and kindness.
The funds, equivalent to nearly one hundred thousand taka, were handed over to BAZNAS Provinsi Riau, a government recognised zakat organisation known for its humanitarian work.
Hamidul Hoque, a member of the local Rohingya community, told Rohingya Khobor that refugees also feel a responsibility to help others. He said they may live far from home, but they share the pain of those experiencing disaster.
Another community member said Indonesia has supported Rohingya refugees during difficult years, and this donation is a way of expressing gratitude. He said the contribution reflects the belief that compassion should extend beyond nationality or status.
Community representatives said they hope the support will bring comfort to families affected by the floods, and they expressed their prayers for everyone facing loss and disruption.
