On Tuesday Chinese Ambassador to Dhaka Yao Wen has expressed hope that the first batch of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh will return to Myanmar very soon. He said this at an event titled ‘Spring Dialogue’ at the Chinese Embassy in the capital.

Describing the inability of the Rohingyas to return to Rakhine as “unfortunate” despite various initiatives, the Ambassador said, “Some of the partners in this process do not want the Rohingyas to return.”

Yao Wen further said that the tripartite efforts consisting of Bangladesh and Myanmar will continue under China’s initiative to return the Rohingyas, “China will never give up.”

Rohingyas who fled Rakhine in the face of restrictive measures by the military-controlled government of Myanmar have been staying in various camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh for many years.
