Norur Islam of Khuir Khal village, North Muangday, was shot and killed by Myanmar Border Guard Police (BGP), while searching for fish in Khuir Khali river, near to the BGP camp, last Friday at around 1:30 pm.
Along with three other boys, the fifty eight year old victim had paid the required toll and set out to the river in search of fish, when he heard the scream of a drowning boy and fled to his rescue. The BGP soldiers interfered hearing the commotion and started firing in the air, shooting Norur Islam in the head and killing him in the process.
His body was sent to Maungdaw hospital, to be delivered to his family later.
