A 17-year-old Rohingya student, Azizur Rahman, was abducted and brutally tortured by unidentified individuals in Kutupalong Refugee Camp, sparking fresh concerns over the safety of refugees.
Azizur, a grade 5 student from Camp-4, was attacked around 7:00 PM while returning home from school. The assailants tied him with ropes and subjected him to severe physical abuse, allegedly demanding ransom from his family. Neighbors rescued him, but the incident has left the community in shock.
The case highlights the increasing risks faced by Rohingya refugees, including kidnappings, human trafficking, and violence. Community members have expressed fear and frustration over inadequate security in the camps.
“The safety of our children is at constant risk. We cannot live in peace under such circumstances,” said a resident of Camp-4.
Rohingyas are urging the Bangladeshi authorities and international organizations like UNHCR to take immediate action to address the growing threats and ensure the protection of vulnerable individuals in the camps.
