A Rohingya teacher was arrested by the Arakan Army during a night operation in Nasar Para village of Sein Daung village tract in Buthidaung on March 29, according to local sources.
The arrested teacher has been identified as 34-year-old Maung Maung Soe, also known as Asotullah, son of Sowyet Ahmed. Residents said he was taken from his home at night, and his current whereabouts remain unknown.
“They came at night and took him away. We don’t know where he is now,” a local resident told Rohingya Khobor.
At the same time, concerns are increasing over the situation of young Rohingya women in the area. Local sources said many adult girls are leaving their homes and attempting to travel to Malaysia by boat.
Residents said fear of forced involvement with the Arakan Army and financial pressure are among the main reasons behind these movements. Some families are reportedly unable to meet monetary demands, pushing young women to leave.
“Many girls are leaving because they are afraid. Their families are poor and cannot pay money, so they try to escape,” one resident said.
Another source added, “Going by boat is dangerous, but they feel they have no other choice.”
The situation in Buthidaung remains tense, with residents reporting growing fear as arrests and displacement continue within Rohingya communities.
