Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar: Noor Mohammad, a 30-year-old Rohingya teacher, tragically died with his throat slit in the extended part of Ukhiya No. 4 Rohingya camp early on Wednesday. Attackers attacked Noor Mohammad, son of the late Ali Ahmed of Block D, as he made his way to the mosque for Fajr prayer.
Md. Shamim Hossain, the officer-in-charge of Ukhiya police station, reported that a group of armed assailants stopped Noor, hacked him with a sharp blade, and slit his throat, killing him instantly. Responding promptly, the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) and local police recovered Noor’s body and sent it to the district headquarters hospital for a post-mortem.
Authorities believe a miscreant group likely carried out the murder to assert dominance in the camp. This incident highlights the ongoing violence and insecurity within the Rohingya camps, where clashes among different groups frequently occur.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. This tragic event underscores the urgent need for enhanced security measures to protect the vulnerable Rohingya population in the camps.
