Camp 26, Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar — May 20, 2025 | Rohingya Khobor
A Rohingya teacher, Mohammad Zubair, is in critical condition after being brutally stabbed by an armed group inside Block H-5 of Camp 26 (Muchuni) on the night of May 18, according to family members and local sources.
The attack took place around 7:00 PM, as Zubair was returning from Nila Bazar in Teknaf. He was reportedly lured out of his shelter by a phone call from someone posing as a relative. As he stepped outside, four men ambushed him and stabbed him multiple times, leaving his stomach torn open.
“He was just walking back when someone called him outside. Then four men surrounded him and started stabbing him. His intestines came out,” a family member told Rohingya Khobor.
“We rushed him to the hospital immediately.”
Zubair was taken to Cox’s Bazar District Hospital, where doctors confirmed that he had sustained life-threatening abdominal injuries. He remains in critical condition under intensive care.
“He’s still breathing, but his condition is very serious,” the family member added.
“We don’t know why they did this. He’s just a teacher.”
Local sources have identified some of the attackers as a mix of Rohingya refugees and local Bengalis, reportedly from Camp 24 (Haldi Camp). However, no arrests have been made as of yet, and the motive behind the attack remains unknown.
The incident has sparked fear and anxiety among other teachers, volunteers, and residents inside the camp. Many are now calling on the authorities to take urgent action, investigate the attack, and ensure the safety of educators and aid workers.
“Teachers already live under threat,” said a local education volunteer.
“If they are not protected, who will guide the children?”
