Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, March 29, 2026
A Rohingya teenager lost his leg in a landmine explosion near the Ukhiya border on Sunday afternoon, according to border officials.
The incident occurred around 1:00 PM at the zero line of the Naf River in the Balukhali border area under Palongkhali Union. The injured boy, 15-year-old Abdul Hakim, is a resident of Block A of Rohingya Camp No. 19.
Local sources said Abdul Hakim was returning from the river after catching fish when the explosion took place. He sustained critical injuries, including the loss of his right ankle, along with serious wounds to other parts of his body.
Residents rushed him to the MSF Hospital in Kutupalong, and he was later transferred to Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital for further treatment.
A Border Guard Bangladesh official confirmed the incident, stating that it was reported by people in the area.
Earlier, on March 26, another Rohingya man, 25-year-old Mohammad Shahidul Islam, also lost his leg in a similar landmine explosion in the Anjuman Para border area of the same union.
The repeated incidents have raised serious concerns about the safety of Rohingya living near border areas, particularly those who depend on the river for fishing and daily survival.
