A Rohingya woman was reportedly gang-raped by two members of the Arakan Army in Nga Sar Kyu Village in northern Maungdaw on February 4, 2026, according to local residents.
Community sources said the two armed men, believed to be from an Arakan Army camp near Yay Myet Taung Village, entered the home of a Rohingya couple at around 4:00 pm. The attackers allegedly tied up both the husband and wife inside their house.
Residents said the woman was sexually assaulted by the two men during the attack. When she attempted to escape, she was reportedly injured on her hand with a knife. She later managed to flee and sought assistance from a relative of a former village leader.
According to villagers, the attackers then forced the husband to move toward a nearby hill and allegedly attempted to kill him with a knife. He reportedly shouted for help and was able to escape.
Local sources said the case was reported through village administration channels. That same night, Arakan Army members returned to the village, took photographs of the victim, and warned her not to disclose the incident outside the village.
The following day, both the accused fighters and the victims were reportedly taken to an Arakan Army camp for questioning. Residents said the two fighters received ten lashes each as punishment, and the case was considered closed.
Community members expressed concern over the lack of a transparent investigation and the limited disciplinary action taken. Residents said the incident has increased fear among Rohingya families in the area, with many questioning the safety of civilians and the availability of justice for victims of abuse.
Local people say women and families in the village are now living in heightened anxiety, unsure whether similar incidents could occur again.
