A Rohingya youth named Md. Jubair (25) was critically injured in a landmine explosion while fishing near the Myanmar border on Tota Island. Jubair, a resident of the Teknaf camp in Cox’s Bazar, was wounded on Saturday, September 28, around noon.
The incident took place at Tota Island near the Naf River, adjacent to the Myanmar border. Md. Jubair is the son of Nur Hossain, who lives in Block C/1 of Camp-22 in Unchiprang, Teknaf.
According to Md. Rafiqullah, a community leader from the Unchiprang camp, Jubair crossed into the Myanmar border area to fish when a landmine, hidden near the shore, exploded. He sustained severe injuries to his leg due to the blast. Jubair was immediately rushed to the MSF hospital in Kutupalong for initial treatment. After being stabilized, the attending doctors referred him to Cox’s Bazar General Hospital for further medical care.
Jubair is currently undergoing treatment at the Cox’s Bazar General Hospital.
