Refugees from Nayapara camp today reported Dengue fever is spreading among refugees day by day due to the negligent concern of authorities around the camps.
Dengue, a mosquito-borne viral infection which causes flu-like illness, is transmitted by female mosquitoes, mainly of the Aedes species.
Abu Toha Bhuyan, Health Coordinator at the office of Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Office, on Monday reported that over 7,600 dengue cases, including four deaths, had been registered among Rohingya refugees this year, even as experts warned that the situation could escalate dangerously if measures are not taken quickly.
Imam Hussain, a refugee from camp 26 told Rohingya Khobor that he and his family has been suffering from headache, severe illness, and pain.
“When I went to Output Patient Department (OPD) of Nayapara camp with my fever and pain, the on duty doctor prescribed me to take Paracetamole tablet only three times a day in the place of examining my disease from which I have been suffering for two weeks”, Imam said.
“We have to stay in a crowded area where mosquito is in plenty. We don’t get adequate water supply much than two jars a day for a whole family, for which we are unable to keep our children neat and clean, and bathed”, another refugee said.
Dengue control measures are being discussed but in the field but nothing is seen, a block chairman said under the condition of anonymity.
Previously mosquito nets were provided beside other measures to control dengue, but this year no steps have been taken to control dengue even after it is being massively detected that made refugees highly worried.
