Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sought a strong role and continued cooperation of the international community in finding a lasting solution to the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh during her addressing the UN.
The Prime Minister said, “The Rohingya crisis has entered its fifth year. But so far it has not been possible to repatriate any of the forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals. Although the recent political turmoil in Myanmar has created uncertainty, we look forward to the strong role and continued cooperation of the international community in finding a lasting solution to this problem.
Myanmar must create a conducive environment for the return of its citizens. We are always ready to cooperate with the international community on this important issue. “
At the time, the Prime Minister said, “We have relocated a number of forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals to Bahasanchar to secure their temporary stay in Bangladesh.” All those eligible for vaccination have been included in the national immunization program to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 epidemic in the refugee camps.
Sheikh Hasina said, “I have said before, I will say again – the Rohingya crisis is in Myanmar, there is a solution in Myanmar. Only a safe, sustainable and dignified return to their homeland in Rakhine State can bring about a lasting solution to this crisis. For this, the international community must take constructive initiatives.”
“We hope that ASEAN leaders will accelerate their efforts on the issue of displaced Myanmar citizens. On the other hand, the international community must co-operate in all actions taken to ensure accountability for those responsible for human rights violations.
