According to a healthcare worker, the surge in Covid19 patients in Sittwe created a shortage of oxygen supply.
Dr Aung Naing Lin said to DMG, “the hospital needs more oxygen-producing machines and oxygen pipeline systems. He asked that responsible officials from the hospital, donors and the Ministry of Health and Sports help to address the issue.”
There were 88 patients receiving treatment for COVID-19 at Sittwe General Hospital as of October 15; out of which three were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and another six were considered severe cases.
“As of October 15, a total of 1,046 coronavirus patients had been discharged from the hospital following recovery and six had died,” according to a COVID-19 monitoring group.
